Love Shouldn't Hurt
The Tragedy of Domestic Violence
By
Annette Jones

The body of 26-year-old Jessie Marie Davis was found in a field by police searchers on June 23,
2007.  Her boyfriend and the father of her 2-year-old son and unborn daughter, Bobby Cutts,
Jr., was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder shortly after the discovery of Jessie’s
body.

This is just the most recent case of domestic abuse to appear in the news.  Violence against
women occurs each and every day.  Here are some of the statistics:

Dreams and Nightmares
Wake-Up Calls
by
Parthena Black

Our dreams are screens for late-night public service announcements from our unconscious
minds. Dreams often call our attention to problems and issues in waking life - and some of

On Fate and Predicting the Future
By Annette Jones

The other day on a certain MySpace group that I enjoy, we got into debating Fate and predicting
the future.  My opponent said that predicting the future implied that there was such a thing as
Fate, but that the very act of predicting the future changes the future, thereby proving that
there is NO such thing as Fate.  A paradox, a paradox, a most ingenious paradox.  (Come on,
sing along, everybody!)

A Crash Course In Dreams
By Parthena Black

No one really knows for sure why we dream. Scientists have studied brain activity and although
there is still some question as to exactly where in the brain that dreams come from, it has been
confirmed that dreams occur in the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep.  People who
wake up in this stage of sleep are more likely to remember their dreams, and remember them
vividly. Only about half of the population awakens during this state and remember their
dreams. The other half awakens during non-REM sleep and believe that they never dream. We
dream about every 90 minutes and the longest dreams occur in the morning. While the general
consensus is that "everyone" dreams, this may not be completely accurate. Illness, some brain
injuries, certain medications and sleep disorders can inhibit REM sleep.  The dreamer might
still dream, but their ability to recall their dreams may be impaired.

My First Mammogram - Or - The Pretzel Machine
by
Annette Jones

October 9, 2006

I walked into the brightly lit offices 10 minutes before my appointment.  I was a little bit
nervous because I’d never had a mammogram done before.  The cute receptionist, who couldn’t
have been more than 19, handed me a clipboard with a few forms on it and a pink pen and told
me to have a seat.

Ok.  I can do that.
